The Great Lakes and Corn Belt
The Great Lakes and Corn Belt are also known as heartland of Northern America because the area is located near the geographic center. This area is adjacent to and south of the Great Lakes, includes eight United States states, and southern Ontario. The states in this region are Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Minnesota. Humans have considerably modified most of this area’s landscape. The characteristics of this area merge gradually, not abruptly, and have many adjacent regions, including the Megalopolis. Because of the location of this area it makes the economy highly integrated, diverse and unique. Detriot is known for being a major automobile producing center in the United States of America. Chicago is apart of the Great Lakes and Corn Belt and is the largest city in this area. Chicago is similar to New York City in many ways; first of all, they are both huge metropolitan cities in their areas. Chicago’s economic transportation connections extend to places all over the world. Similar to New York City, Chicago has many different ethnic groups that have placed a structure of communities for their ethnicities. Today, Chicago is a very significant financial and commercial center. Five of the largest metropolitan cities in the Great Lakes and Corn Belt are Chicago, Toronto, Detriot, Minneapolis, and St. Louis. All five of these cities are located in the population centers of each area.
